historians can and do debate all day...

The 'removing' or 'erasing' history line is silly. We're talking about the focusing on and glorification of a small part of Southern history, and doing so of only one 'side' of the time, the pro-slavery side. The South is not filled with statutes of, say, George Thomas (Southern but Union General) or schools named after, say, William Carney (Southern born African-American Union soldier and recipient of the Medal of Honor), it is filled with statues of Confederate leaders and schools named after them. It's a purposeful choosing of an abominable cause and glorifying it beyond and above all other history in the region. There is no good reason to continue it.
